First, that innocent Americans' data is being swept up and stored thanks to the use of the "full pipe" data gathering technique. Second, that the government's Total Information Awareness Program - which was "killed" but never defunded - was being used to build domestic spying facilities around the country.
I caught PBS's NOW program last Friday by chance, and I'm glad I did. They have resources not available to this lowly blogger. What PBS discovered will chill your bones. Yes, data on innocent Americans is being intercepted and stored. Additionally, more whistleblowers have come forward to establish the existence of another secret spy room on AT&T's network, built post 9-11.
And Keith Olbermann is discussing if this was aimed to distract us all from the Banking Story which shows once again George Bush is invading our privacy by looking at our bank records - and some banks did not even know.
Justice Dept officials spent EIGHT hours last night trying to convince the LATimes & NYTimes to not go public.
And then this happened?
I'll let you connect the dots. I'm just disgusted with Bushco - more than normal today.
Well, well, well. Yesterday, we heard news from the Washington Post that almost 70% of Americans didn't care if they were being spied on by the NSA regarding phone numbers people call.
In one of the most manipulated polls I've seen, 66% of Americans appear to be ok with the NSA spying on their phone calls.
BULL.
Polls, when done correctly, can really prove useful. But there is a reason why some polls can be misleading: they can push people to a particular answer.
I used to do telephone polls (hey, had to pay for college!) & one thing we were told over & over was to stay on script so as to not influence the person.
But even the questions had to asked properly and neutrally.
Take a closer look at the poll's methology & questions.
If the NSA can spy on the phone conversations of EVERY SINGLE AMERICAN, take the Constitution, cut it up into pieces & sell it as a souvenirb/c it's over.
“We are not mining or trolling through the personal lives of millions of innocent Americans,” Bush said. “Our efforts are focused on links to al-Qaida and their known affiliates."
Um, we saw what your word meant in Iraq, Bush. I ain't falling for that one again!
So do you feel safe now? I really thought I was being paranoid.
The NSA in charge of a domestic spying program has been secretly collecting phone call records of tens of millions of Americans, including calls made within the United States, USA Today reported on Thursday.
In fact the three stupid companies that provided the records, AT&T, Verizon, & BellSouth, service 200 million people. um, isn't that EVERYBODY with a phone??
Here's what I want to know:
Why is the National Security Agency - the same agency that headed by Condi Rice failed to protect us from 9/11 - spying on ordinary Americans when 90% of our cargo containers are not even checked at our ports?
This time they cannot lie about it being "terrorists" making international calls.
These are by American citizens to Americans here in the States.
